There are loads of great things to do and places to visit in Oxford. Each month we take one Oxford Bus Company service and tell you where you should be visiting, shopping and eating along its route. This month we take a look at the city5, which serves Blackbird Leys, Cowley, Oxford City Centre and Oxford Rail Station.

1) Kassam Stadium
Location and Bus Stop:
Blackbird Leys, bus stops at Spindleberry Close.

The 12,500 capacity Kassam Stadium is home to Oxford United F.C and Rugby Union team, London Welsh. Our city5 service carries sports fans to matches at Kassam most weekends! Whilst you’re in the area, why not check out the Ozone Leisure Park for restaurants, a cinema and bowling alley.

2) O2 Academy Oxford
Location and Bus Stop: Cowley Road, bus stops at Manzil Way.

Oxford is fortunate to have a number of excellent live music venues. At the top of that list is the O2 Academy, with a packed events calendar full of local bands and established acts. The venue is also home to some great club nights, including Propaganda.

3) Truck and Keen Bean
Location and Bus Stop: Cowley Road, bus stops at Stockmore Street/ James Street.

To our knowledge, Truck is the only independent record store in Oxford. Inside you’ll find a varied selection of cd’s and vinyl and knowledgeable, friendly staff. Keep an eye out for in-store gigs and pay a visit to coffee shop Keen Bean, which is situated in the shop!

4) The Star
Location and Bus Stop: Cowley Road, bus stops at Stockmore Street/ James Street.

The city5 travels past a number of brilliant pubs on Cowley Road, however our top pick is The Star on Rectory Road. There’s always a fantastic selection of drinks and a friendly atmosphere – a bit of a hidden gem!

5) Quarter Horse Coffee
Location and Bus Stop: Cowley Road, The Plain.

A relative newcomer to Cowley Road, Quarter Horse Coffee has cemented itself as one of the best coffee shops on Cowley Road (which is no mean feat!). Try a flat white and tasty cake from local bakers Natural Bread Company – you won’t regret it!

6) Atomic Burger
Location and Bus Stop: Cowley Road, The Plain.

An institution on Cowley Road! Atomic Burger is a restaurant packed full of character,  décor inspired by cult tv and movies and an outrageous menu! We would recommend a Mr T Burger and Strawberry Shake!

7) Cafe Coco
Location and Bus Stop: Cowley Road, The Plain.

For those of you looking for a more grown up eating experience, Coco at the Plain has delicious food, a fine cocktail list and a chilled atmosphere in the evenings. You could also try Coco for a weekend brunch, it’s the perfect spot for a catch up with friends.

8) Punting at Magdalen Bridge
Location and Bus Stop: InboundCowley Road, The Plain. Outbound – Queen’s College.

It’s fun being a tourist for the day in Oxford! So why not punt up Cherwell River with a group of friends or the family? You can try Punting from Magdalen Bridge, where you will take in scenic views of Christ Church Meadow, The Botanical Gardens and Magdalen Bridge itself. Wait for a sunny day and pack a picnic!

9) Oxford Bus Company Travel Shop
Location and Bus Stop: Oxford High Street, bus stops at Queen’s College.

The Oxford Bus Company Travel Shop, located on the High Street, is almost a year old and has become a vital location for key top-ups and customer information. You can view opening times on our website, our Travel Shop staff are always happy to see you!

10) Oxford Castle Unlocked and The Castle Quarter
Location and Bus Stop: Oxford City Centre, Castle Street.

Costumed guides bring Oxford’s hidden history to life at Oxford Castle, revealing the colourful past from within Oxford’s oldest building. Once you’ve visited Oxford Castle Unlocked, why not head to the Castle Quarter for regular family events, top restaurants like Big Bang and art space O3 Gallery.

Do you have your own recommendations on the city5 route? If so, we’d love to hear them!
