On Sunday 14th June, we showed our support for the great work done by Low Carbon Oxford by providing a free bus service to the family-run Sandy Lane Farm near Wheatley. Good Food Oxford had managed to negotiate a free tour with farmer Charles Bennett, who was able to share the knowledge he has built up over a lifetime to teach us all more about how our food is produced.
Of all the visitors on the day, 90% didn’t have cars and wouldn’t have been able to get to the farm any other way. We highly recommend you check out the farm if you get the opportunity! It sounds like the visitors do too… here are some of their comments:
“I never would have been able to come on this tour as I don’t have a car. It’s great to get out into the countryside. There’s so much variety on the farm, you’d think you were in three or four different parts of the country from field to field. They obviously care a lot about their farm and are real experts.”
“So kind of Oxford Bus Company to do this. They’re always so great – not because it’s a marketing thing but because they really want to help.”
Thanks so much to Sandy Lane Farm for offering the free tour and to Low Carbon Oxford for organising this excellent week. It’s certainly got us all thinking about how our food choices can help us reduce our impact on the environment.
Here are some tweets from the day.
